Overview
This College Certificate program provides students with the skills and knowledge required to deliver high-quality, well-defined project solutions. Through applied learning activities, students learn skills and strategies for moving through the project life cycle phases. They develop a critical understanding of management activities and human resources, project risks and quality, project scheduling and supporting software, and contracting and procurement. Students work through the curriculum to develop a project management plan that can be applied to real-life scenarios.

COURSE DESCRIPTIONS
MGT5164 Introduction to Project Management
Project management practitioners need to understand the established industry norms, methods, and practices for managing all stages of the project life cycle and its related processes. Students are introduced to the fundamental principles of project management, such as project strategy, selection, scheduling, risk management, quality assurance, performance measurement, audit and closure. By participating in discussions, analyzing readings, and conducting preliminary research, students acquire a working understanding of project management knowledge and theory.
MGT5079 Project Definition and Planning
Defining and managing a project scope ensures that the project includes all the required work. Students learn practical skills and knowledge related to project definition and planning, creation of a Work Breakdown Structure (WBS), resource allocation, development of the project budget and close-out management techniques. Through group exercises and case study analysis, students acquire project management planning skills and concepts.

MGT5083 Project Management and the Human Interface
Human resources management is important to organizing, leading and managing project teams. Students explore various leadership techniques necessary to control the human dynamic within the project life cycle. Through a series of workshops and exercises, students study the key concepts, tools and techniques for motivating high performance in project teams, such as teambuilding and motivation, leadership and conflict control. Students develop an understanding of the importance of blending sound project management techniques with effective leadership skills.

MGT5084 Project Management Scheduling Software
Project management software increases the ability of the project manager to work more efficiently. The functions of project planning and scheduling, resource allocation and costing, progress monitoring and reporting are explored in detail. Through the application of project software tools and techniques students develop the skills required to manage successful projects.

MGT5085 Project Risk and Quality Management
Risk and control management is of vital importance to an organization in ensuring positive outcomes. Students explore risk management, starting with planning for risk management, identification and quantification of risks, preparation of risk response strategies and monitoring risk factors. Through group discussions and applied exercises students develop an understanding of the functions of quality assurance, control and improvement in projects.

MGT5086 Contracting and Procurement in Project Management
The project procurement and contracting process defines agreements between vendors and clients. Topics such as procurement, conducting a tendering process, negotiating and administering contracts are explored. By participating in discussions, analyzing readings and conducting research, students develop an understanding of the legal implications of contracts as they relate to project success.

MGT5087 Directed Studies in Project Management
Effective project managers are strategic in their approach to project planning. Students apply their knowledge of project management skills and theory to an independent, self-directed applied project. Students develop and present a project plan that encompasses all stages of the project planning and implementation process.

Graduation Fee:
Once you have completed all the courses in the program, it is the responsibility of the student to complete a credential application (https://www.algonquincollege.com/online/certificationgraduating/). A graduation fee is charged when the application is submitted. After your credential application has been approved, you will be invited to Convocation.
Admissions Requirements
All applicants must satisfy both College Eligibility and Program Eligibility requirements.
College Eligibility
The following requirements are recommended to ensure success in the program:
- Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) or equivalent; OR
- Academic and Career Entrance (ACE) certificate; OR
- General Educational Development (GED) certificate; OR
- Mature Student status (19 years of age or older and without a high school diploma at the start of the program).
Program Eligibility
The following requirement is recommended to ensure success in the program:
- English, Grade 12 (ENG4C or equivalent).
- It is recommended applicants with international transcripts have the following IELTS or TOEFL scores to ensure success: IELTS-International English Language Testing Service (Academic) Overall band of 6.0 with a minimum of 5.5 in each band; OR TOEFL-Internet-based (iBT) Overall 80, with a minimum of 20 in each component: Reading 20; Listening 20; Speaking 20; Writing 20; OR Duolingo English Test (DET) Overall 110, minimum of 110 in Literacy and no score below 95.

Please note that AC Online programs do not qualify international students for new study permits or study permit extensions.
If you are a Certified Project Management Professional (PMP), you are eligible for an exemption from the introductory course MGT5164 - Introduction to Project Management.
Students can obtain up to 42 Professional Development Units (PDUs) towards maintaining their Project Management Institute, Inc. (PMI) designation for each course completed. For information on the PMI, refer to their website at https://www.pmi.org.
Project Management Scheduling Software (MGT5084) requires use of MS Project 2019. Students are responsible for acquiring this software. MS Project requires a Windows operating system.
PRIOR LEARNING AND RECOGNITION (PLAR):
Students who wish to apply for PLAR need to demonstrate competency at a post-secondary level in five of the course learning requirements. Evidence of learning achievements for PLAR candidates may include a comprehensive challenge examination and/or completion of a portfolio.
AC ONLINE ACADEMIC PLANNER:
The Academic Planner provides registered part-time students the ability to declare into a program of study. The Academic Planner outlines successfully completed courses to date, as well as courses that need to be completed in order to meet graduation requirements. It is therefore, essential that all part-time students declare to their program of study, allowing administrators to plan course offerings. The tool is available on ACSIS, located under 'Part-time Students' on the left-hand toolbar.
PROGRAM PROGRESSION:
As per policy AA39: Program Progression and Graduation Requirements when students are admitted to a program, they are assigned to the Program of Study that aligns with their start date. If a student takes a break for two or more consecutive terms the Program of Study is reset to align with the current version (when studies are resumed).
