FRENCH DELIVERY - Algonquin College's hybrid Crisis Management and De-escalation Techniques (CMDT) training program - Health Stream (provided through Behaviour Management System), emphasizes the prevention of disruptive behaviour and non-physical interventions, promptly addressing and diffusing anxious, hostile or violent behaviour safely. Key strategies include a thorough understanding of the subject matter, responding to early warning signs or indicators and recognition of behaviour levels in a crisis. Additionally, the program explores personal safety techniques like avoidance, releases and blocks. Containment methods including restraints are integrated with calming and de-escalation techniques. This six-hour hybrid training consists of 3 hours of asynchronous self-paced online content and 3 hours of in-person physical training, which provides a two-year certification. The language of instruction for this course is French.

Notes

This training is open to everyone. You do not need to be an Algonquin College student to register. The sections below have been designed by BMS for students and workers in the health care field and contain case studies set in health-care workplaces and information about pertinent legislation. While the course is healthcare focused it does contain all the essential information about preventing disruptive behaviour using de-escalation techniques.

Please note the delivery model for this course is hybrid which includes:

3 hours of asynchronous online training

3 hours in-person training at Algonquin College (Ottawa Campus)

After you have registered you will receive an email that gives further details about the training including dates for the steps below.

Steps To Completion:

  1. Register for your in-person training before the registration deadline (10 days before date of in-person training).
  2. Access Brightspace for this course and successfully complete the 3-hour asynchronous training course before the asynchronous training deadline (48 hours before date of in-person training).
  3. 2 days before the training deadline an email will be sent to you outlining your start time, room number and instructor name for your in-person training.
  4. Successfully complete your in-person training.

Cancellation and Refund Policy

Students may cancel their registration for the training at least 10 business days prior to the scheduled start date of their asynchronous online portion with a full refund. No refunds will be issued for cancellations made less than 10 business days before the course start date or for non-completion of the asynchronous online or in-person training. Please note that failure to complete the online training will result in ineligibility to attend the in-person training. Participant transfers are permitted if the transfer request is made at least 10 business days prior to the course start date. Algonquin College reserves the right to reschedule or cancel courses. In the event of a schedule change or course cancellation, participants will be notified accordingly.
