Workday Security Roles
In Workday, security roles define a subset of people with specific responsibilities and permissions.
They:
- Determine what information you can view via reports, profiles, and other informational screens
- Determine what tasks and transactions you can initiate, complete and approve
- Sometimes require additional training, dependent on their level of access
- Are specific to a set of supervisory organizations or cost center hierarchies
Over time, various factors can cause security role assignments in Workday to be out of sync with an employee’s job function. This increases the confidentiality risk that an employee will view data that they should not have access to or the data integrity risk that an employee makes changes in Workday when they should not be able to do so. Proper security role assignments are also necessary for the correct and smooth routing of business processes. Incorrect routing can lead to unnecessary delays and inefficient processes.
Security roles can be added or removed at any time by submitting a Request through Workday. See the Create Request User Guide for details.
