Therapeutic Recreation Ontario (TRO) Essential Competency Framework
The Algonquin College Therapeutic Recreation (TR) curriculum is in alignment with the Therapeutic Recreation Ontario (TRO) Essential Competency Framework.
Upon graduation from Algonquin College, students will have earned the required education points and 560 hours of practical experience for the Registration designation through Pathway A.
Please note the following:
a) Students applying for their R/TRO DIP designation require 430 hours of practical experience.
b) Students applying for their R/TRO designation require 710 hours of practical experience. They may use Pathway A for their first 560 hours and then track the remaining 150 hours using the Pathway B form (Form 3b) using the transition formula. In this way, they only need to earn 21 points. eg. upon graduation, if they work FT for 3 months they are then eligible for 23 points.
In addition, applicants will also need to be a current member of TRO and submit proof of obtaining at least 25 professional contribution points (PCCs).
