Combine theoretical and practical skills

The Social Service Worker program at Algonquin College provides students with field placement opportunities in a variety of settings, which enables students to choose the area of interest they would like to pursue in the future. Students will have ample time in placement to develop their skills, network and help advance their career as the program has the highest placement hours in the province. Once the student has completed the program, they are eligible to become registered as a SSW through the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers. Students also learn practical skills through role playing, case studies, and interviewing exercises with peers and community members.

“I entered the Social Service Worker program as a mature student with a degree in Psychology, and the hopes of gaining valuable work experience in the field, while also adding to my existing education.
