What are the entrance requirements for this program?

Once you have met the program specific subject requirements, you will be invited to take a pre-entrance health program assessment. The applicants are then ranked and offered admission based on their scores from this assessment.

Are there any other entrance requirements other than the academic ones already mentioned?

A current Standard First Aid and CPR Level ā€œCā€ certificate is required prior to registration. Students can not attend clinical until this is completed. As the program and career are both physically demanding, accepted applicants must be in good health and submit a Health Assessment Form and an Immunization Form prior to registration. The annual flu vaccine is required for clinical. As well you will need to obtain a Police Record Check for the Vulnerable Sector.

Would I be an Occupational Therapist Assistant or would I be a Physical Therapist Assistant?

This is a dual stream program that prepare the graduate to work in either role. There are health care employers who will expect the graduate to perform both roles where other employers may focus more on one role than another.

Where would I find a job after graduation?

Graduates possess the basic theoretical knowledge and technical skills to work in hospitals, health centres, community organizations, rehabilitation facilities, private clinics and long term care settings functioning under the supervision of the occupational therapist and/or physiotherapist.

Is this program all classroom work?

Through classroom theory, laboratory techniques, group work and practical experience students prepare to work with patients coping with temporary or permanent health limitations in movement and daily function. A variety of clinical placements in various health care facilities provide the opportunity for students to gain confidence and experience in treating patients safely and effectively.

What is the salary range for a graduate entering the workforce in this role?

Recent salary reports indicate an entry level position in the larger metropolitan hospital settings range from $31,000-$54,000 per year.

When you are in the program can you complete it part-time?

No, this is a full-time program.

How long is the program?

The OTA/PTA program is a 2 year diploma program that runs over 4 semesters.
