Mandatory Clinical Placement Requirements

To be eligible to participate in clinical placements, students must receive clearance from our third-party service provider Placement Pass which has been tasked with collecting and retaining this information on behalf of Algonquin College. Students are expected to cover all costs related to obtaining a police record check and Placement Pass costs. These costs are considered to be program related costs similar to books and lab/clinic uniforms. To fulfill these ParaMed obligations, students must complete important health and safety training (WHMIS, Standard First Aid and CPR Level C) and obtain a Police Records Check for the Services with the Vulnerable Sector (PRCSVS). Additionally, students must provide proof of vaccination/immunization status and Tuberculosis screening. Requirements must be submitted by the end of Level 2 and kept updated every semester until graduation. Any students who have not completed the requirements on time or received clearance at the start of each subsequent term will be unable to participate in clinic or outreach, nor be eligible for graduation.

And in order to be eligible to participate in the Student Massage clinic and outreach placements at the start of level 3 students are required to:

  • complete important health and safety training (WHMIS, OHSA Standard First Aid and CPR Level C)
  • obtain a Police Record Check for Service with the Vulnerable Sector (PRCSVS)
  • proof of vaccination/immunization status submitted to Placement Pass (health assessment forms below). These requirements are continually updated and are as advised by Heath Canada. Students are required to have updated vaccinations and you will see this information when you log in to the Placement Pass. Please note, that vaccines are required to be administered according to specific schedules and may involve wait times between doses, as well as possibly interfering with TB-status testing, please consult your Health Professional for specific information related to your situation.
  • As recommended by the National Advisory Commission on Immunization (NACI) COVID-19 vaccines should not be given at the same time as other vaccines. There should be a period of 14 days after administration of other vaccine before receiving the COVID-19 vaccination. Once a dose of COVID-19 vaccine is administered there needs to be a waiting period of 28 days prior to receiving other vaccines.
  • TB testing can be completed any time prior to administration of COVID-19 vaccine or 28 days post COVID-19 vaccine dose.

Health Assessment Forms:

Screening for immunity to certain diseases and verifying that your immunizations are up to date is a requirement of this program. Please note: This process usually takes a minimum of 2 -3 weeks to complete, but may take up to 8 weeks based on your immunization history. If you are unable to locate your proof of vaccination you may be required to test for immunity or redo your immunization series, which may delay your clearance further.
