What To Expect
Algonquin College is proud to provide a diverse and dynamic student experience. Check out the highlights below to get a sense of what to expect as a student in the Bachelor of Early Learning and Community Development (Honours) program.
- Earn a unique credential, as this degree is the only program of its kind in Canada
- Cultivate community development skills in order to create relevant programs and services for children and families
- Develop outdoor learning experiences to support children’s connection with nature
- Support young children’s learning by working with a mentor in the early learning sector
- Small class sizes which provide more one on one time with the professors , the opportunity to build connections with peers
- Work in collaboration with peers on various projects
- Applied action research projects, where you work with agencies across the city to develop leadership and management skills
- You have access to the licensed Algonquin College Early Learning Centre Lab School

Work Integrated Learning
You have opportunities to link the theory you are learning to the real world. Over the 4 years of the degree there are 2 mentorships, and three different and diverse placement opportunities.
In the program you will complete a mandatory 14-week/420 hour summer work term which provides applied experience and the opportunity to establish relationships within industry.
Graduates of the degree are eligible to apply to become registered members of the College of Early Childhood Educators in Ontario.
After graduation you may be able to pursue further academic study in fields related to early learning and community development. This could include a Masters degree (in a related field) or a Bachelor of Education degree.
