Student Experience

What to Expect

Students in the Fitness and Health Promotion program at Algonquin College gain valuable hands-on experience during classes and labs, many of which are held in the Jack Doyle Athletics and Recreation Centre. They learn to administer fitness assessment protocols, conduct real group fitness classes, and prescribe appropriate exercise programs to real clients as part of the Personal Training course. Students also learn to create health and wellness promotion programs by participating in health fairs in various settings, from daycare centres, corporate fitness centres to and seniors residences.

Work Integrated Learning

150 hours of field placement through the two-year program enables students to apply the skills and knowledge gained in the program and further their practical skills in real work situations. Upon completion of the program, students are ready to become certified with the organization of their choice as a personal trainer and/or group fitness instructor.
