What To Expect

Algonquin College is proud to provide a diverse and dynamic student experience. Check out the highlights below to get a sense of what to expect as a student in the Bachelor of Early Learning and Community Development (Entry Level 5) (Honours) program.

  • Earn a unique credential, as this degree is the only program of its kind in Canada
  • Eligible graduates from a two-year Early Childhood Education diploma program could enter into level 5 (Year 3) for this degree pathway
  • Small class sizes which provide more one on one time with the professors , the the opportunity to build connections with peers
  • Applied action research projects, where you will work with agencies across the city to develop leadership and management skills
  • Variety of learning experiences in real work environments
  • The degree qualifies you for careers in addressing needs of families, children and their communities in community health agencies, Early ON Centres, municipal and provincial government and non-government agencies

Work Integrated Learning

You have opportunities to link the theory you are learning to the real world. Over the 4 years there are three different and diverse placement opportunities.
You benefit from a mandatory 14-week/420 hours summer work term to link the theory you are learning to the real world and the opportunity to establish relationships within industry.
After graduation you may be able to pursue further academic study in fields related to early learning and community development. This could include a Masters degree (in a related field) or a Bachelor of Education degree.
