Governance
The purpose of The Sustainable Algonquin Steering Committee (SASC) is to enact the College’s strategic direction to embed sustainability in our culture. This direction is articulated in the College Strategic Plan 2012-2017 and the Sustainability Strategy Framework.
Originally created in 2008 as the College Environmental Committee, with membership driven by individuals who expressed a passion for sustainability, the current form of the SASC is now more formalized. It holds accountability for operationalizing the nine goals identified in this Framework and engaging the broader College community.
Since its creation, members of the SASC have been instrumental in supporting significant achievements, in fulfilling the College’s commitment to the Talloires Declaration, and in establishing a vision for key sustainability performance areas through thought leadership papers such as the 2009 academic white paper, Sustainability.
The Committee will use a top-down approach to operationalize sustainability and embed it into the College’s daily practices, making best practices business as usual. At the same time, the Committee is charged with retaining ties to its grassroots by providing opportunities for those with a passion for sustainability to contribute in effective ways at the College
