College Initiative: Champions of Sustainability Speaker Series
Posted on Tuesday, June 25th, 2013
Delivered in a partnership between Algonquin College, the Ottawa Chamber of Commerce, and the City of Ottawa, this unique series of presentations featured industry leaders who shared insight on sustainable practices, exciting new business opportunities through the deployment of sustainability initiatives and who have tested bold strategies that have generated unexpected business results.
Taking place on campus, the series will address the need to fuel the groundswell of sustainability initiatives in the National Capital Region and provide a forum for advancing the dialog on sustainability. Business, government and education leaders will be challenged to their visions of the future as they strive to encompass environmental stewardship, social justice and equity and economic performance and stability in their daily operations.
This unique series is part of our ongoing commitment to creating a sustainable campus for a sustainable future.
Presentations topics and speakers included:
- “Consumer power and the transition to a low-carbon economy”, Tom Heintzman, President of Bullfrog Power
- “How Australia is Responding to the Sustainability Challenges in the 21st Century”, H.E. Mr. Justin Brown – Australian High Commissioner to Canada
- “The Next Sustainability Wave: Building Buy-In and the Business Case”, Bob Willard, author
The luncheons featured a “local” menu and were hosted as zero waste and zero carbon events.
