All People, All Pathways
Nov 28, 2022 - Dec 19, 2022 |12:00pm-1:00pm
Notice: The Umbrella Project’s All People, All Pathways sessions are done for the 2022 year and will return Monday, January 9, 2023. If you require support throughout the holidays, please click here to check out other All People, All Pathways groups.
Umbrella Project is hosting All People, All Pathways, in partnership with the Community Addictions Peer Support Association (CAPSA). These sessions will be hybrid and take place Mondays, from 12:00pm-1:00pm. If you would like to attend in-person, please meet up in the lobby of Counselling Services (Room E333, 3rd Floor, Student Commons).
The meetings are facilitated by people who have experiences with substance use and substance use disorders. The meetings are non-committal, confidential, and do not require attendees to abstain from substances if they so choose. The purpose of these weekly peer support meetings is for people looking to explore their relationship with substances as it relates to their health. They are also open to family and friends of those experiencing stigma and/or harm related to substance use, to share their experiences about what has helped them on their journey and provide a non-judgmental and safe environment for those seeking help to ask questions, free from stigma, alienation, or discrimination. All are welcome!
Peer support is just that, a fellow peer offering support on their journey. Someone who may have a different story to tell, but often experiences the same thoughts and feelings as the individuals they are supporting. Peer facilitators are not experts or counsellors. They are trained to facilitate the meetings in a non-judgmental and safe manner. They are people who understand a lot of what you are feeling because they have personal experiences similar to yours. Our group is inclusive of all individuals, regardless of where they are in their wellness journey, who are seeking increased wellness with respect to their health related to substance use, and their families, allies, and professionals. All are welcome to attend our meetings
Open to Algonquin College students. No registration information is required, in order to protect anonymity.
