Student Experience
The Computer Engineering Technology – Computing Science program at Algonquin College in Ottawa, Canada is aimed at students looking for a broad-based, general education in computing studies. Using the latest software, students learn practical skills in our Microsoft-based, Linux-based, hardware and networking labs. In their final year, students complete a real-world project for an external client, which provides valuable experience, pulling together all of the concepts in the software lifecycle, and allows for the opportunity to specialize in any specific area of interest. The program offers a co-op opportunity after level 3, where students can do three semesters (1 full year) of paid placement before graduation.

“The Computing Science Program at Algonquin College covers a broad and diverse range of topics that are pertinent to today’s society, so once completed I will have many options of where I want to start my career and if needed I will easily be able to change to a new area of computer science in the future. “I have gone from not having any programming knowledge to landing a contract position.”
“I just wanted to say how completely pleased I am with what has been done with this program. I have gone from not having any programming knowledge to landing a contract position (while I’m a student) as a Junior Java Developer with a startup… in only 1.5 years of studies. We are also a couple of students that were even considering scouting out Request For Proposals from local companies to gain a bit of extra money and experience. It is a fantastic feeling to have the confidence to be able to put a project together and deliver a decent product in the end.”
