Student Experience
What to Expect
As a student in the AI Software Development program, you’ll be quickly immersed in AI theory and will receive the hands-on experience to back up that knowledge.
With a background in software development, a quick refresh of programming standards will get you ready to dig deeper into machine learning, knowledge representation and reasoning, the various techniques of applying AI to problems, as well as the ethical considerations regarding AI and its effect on humanity.
A graduate of the program can expect to develop the skills and knowledge required to implement solutions such as speech recognition and natural language understanding, chatbots, planning, smart agents, machine vision, intelligent manufacturing processes, and intelligent control.
Hear what Program Coordinator and Professor Todd Kelley and student Rafael think about the new Artificial Intelligence Software Development program, and where it can take your career in only two semesters. (video, 1 min 16 seconds)
“One project in particular that was very interesting was the robot. We created a system where it could hear and see your gestures and would follow and talk with you.”
– Rafael, 2023, Student
Work Integrated Learning
Work Integrated Learning is the cornerstone of the College’s commitment to students. From in-class projects working with industry partners to in-the-field placements and co-op terms, gaining the experience to succeed is fundamental to preparing students like you for their futures.
The AI Software Development program provides two semesters for you to work on a dedicated industry client project; not only will you gain communication and project management skills, but the final result of the project will include a software solution that exhibits intelligent behaviors.
An optional third-term co-op placement is available for students who elect to participate. These co-op terms are a paid industry experience, however, it is up to the student to find their co-op placement with the support of the program and College. If you are interested in learning more about this, please see the Additional Information section and visit the Co-op Department page.
