Courses

Programs at Algonquin College are delivered using a variety of instruction modes. Courses may be offered in the classroom or lab, entirely online, or in a hybrid mode which combines classroom sessions with virtual learning activities. Upon registration, each full-time student is provided an Algonquin email account which is used to communicate important information about program or course events.

Careers

Graduates may qualify for entry-level employment opportunities as Network Help-Desk Operators, Network Support Technicians, Installers and Network Maintenance Technicians in organizations that use Cisco and related technologies including private companies and public sector organizations. Students who proceed to the CCNA exams and certification may find work as Network Designers, Network Support Specialists and Network Administrators.

Graduation Fee
Once you have completed all the courses in the program, it is the responsibility of the student to complete a credential application. A graduation fee is charged when the application is submitted. After your credential application has been approved, you will be invited to Convocation.

Admissions Requirements

All applicants must satisfy both College Eligibility and Program Eligibility requirements.

  • Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) or equivalent, OR
  • Mature Student status (19 years of age or older and without an OSSD).

Program Resources

General knowledge of computers, including installing software, transferring files and connecting PC components together and to the Internet is recommended.

A standard equipped PC at home with high speed Internet (preferred) connection is required as classes may be delivered online. For the duration of the program, students will receive a home kit of networking equipment, to be used for practice and lab activities. This is included in the course fees and provided on a loan basis.

Successful program completion provides an opportunity to qualify for a discount voucher for third-party CCNA exam fees.

Students also receive a membership and account in Cisco`s Network Academy providing online access to all training materials, active lab exercises, self assessments and a comprehensive network simulation tool for current needs and future updates after completing the program.

This intensive program prepares you for the Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) exam with Cisco Academy in less than a year of committed part-time study. Students who successfully complete the program qualify for a discount voucher for third party CCNA exam fees.

All three courses within the program are delivered in sequence, online, with scheduled Zoom classes (two evenings per week) plus the expectation of 2-5 hours/wk of homework outside of class hours. In addition to the online lectures and simulation activities, the program includes a significant number of hands-on practice hours.

Your tuition fee includes the loan of a kit of industrial grade equipment for home use. At the first class, your professor will discuss pick-up arrangements for you to come to campus and get your “home lab” equipment, and you’ll be asked to return it prior to the end of your final course. No more waiting for lab time because you’ll have your own “lab” in the convenience of your home throughout your studies!

Students are expected to have a good knowledge of computers, including installing software, transferring and saving files, connecting PC components and using a variety of applications (such as email, Zoom, word processing and logging in to specific sites). In this program you will receive a membership and account in the Cisco Network Academy, for training materials, lab exercises, assessments and a simulation tool. We recommend that students have reliable internet access and a current computer with webcam (recommended specs can be found here. Dual monitors are highly recommended.

The courses run sequentially so you do not have to sign up and pay for all three courses up front. The first course runs from Sept-Dec, followed by the second course (Jan-April) then the third course (May-July). You can register for each course as it is posted on the website.
