Asbestos Control
The purpose of the Algonquin College Asbestos Control Program is the prevention of worker exposure to airborne asbestos and subsequent occupational illness arising from exposure to airborne asbestos. The program outlines the required procedural controls, personal protective equipment requirements, specific work procedures and training requirements for College staff and contractors in the management of asbestos at the College.
Confined Space Entry
The information contained in this package is intended to serve as the accepted practice for all work done in confined spaces at the College. All persons (College employees and contractors) entering and working in confined spaces must be knowledgeable about the information and follow the procedures contained in this document.
Designated Substance Control
The purpose of this program is an overreaching program designed to provide general requirements pertaining to designated substances as per the OHSA, O.Reg. 490/09, and other applicable legislative requirements

Donning and Doffing Personal Protective Equipment
Electrical Safety
The purpose of this program is to prevent injuries to employees from the unexpected energizing, start-up, or release of stored energy from machines, equipment, or processes when such employees are engaged in activities where they are at risk from these hazardous sources. The program is intended to protect employees against electrical shock, burns and other potential electrical safety hazards as well as comply with regulatory requirements.

Emergency Eyewash
The purpose of this program is to ensure that all safety eyewashes and showers supply clean, potable water and are in proper working order. Procedures for emergency use, selection, installation and placement, guidelines for activation, inspection, testing and maintenance of emergency eyewash and shower equipment which apply to all emergency eyewash and shower units are described here.

Laser Safety
The use of lasers in the workplace presents a variety of chemical and physical hazards, to varying degrees, dependant on the class of laser and the specific application. The purpose of this document is to facilitate appropriate assessment of these hazards and identify the corresponding engineering, administrative and personal protective equipment controls that must be in place to mitigate the risk to staff and students. It describes the roles and responsibilities of personnel/students who work with or supervise laser operations and identifies the training required for all College operations involving laser use.
Lead Control
The purpose of this program is to provide the hazards associated with lead and lead-containing materials; outline the steps to take to ensure employees who work with, or around lead are not exposed to hazardous levels of lead; and to provide procedures for common lead related work duties to minimize exposure.

The material handling equipment program establishes the requirements to safely operate and maintain material handling equipment, and outlines the training requirements for the equipment operators. The safe operation of lift trucks minimizes the risk of injury to workers.

Office Ergonomics
The purpose of this program is to effectively eliminate or control Work-related Musculoskeletal Disorders and hazards by providing management leadership and employee involvement in the identification and resolution of hazards and by providing training, medical management and evaluation as an on-going process.

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
The Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) Program is in place to provide the College community with the necessary information to identify hazardous work situations that require the use of PPE, the proper selection and use of PPE, and documentation of this information. This information is important to help ensure the safety and health of all employees at Algonquin College and to achieve regulatory compliance with the Occupational Health & Safety Act.

Respiratory Protection
The purpose of this program is to adequately protect the health of all workers and students coming into contact with hazardous atmospheres, where there is no possibility of implementing engineering or work practice controls. In addition, this program is meant to increase the awareness of respiratory hazards in the workplace and to inform employees of means available to protect themselves and others from those hazards.

Workplace Violence Prevention
This program has been developed to help college staff create and maintain a learning/work environment which is mutually respectful and conducive to learning and working for all. This program discusses various acts of violence and the procedures to be taken to mitigate such occurrences from happening at the college.
