College Community Celebrates Official SIS Project Launch!

Almost 350 members of the College community gathered virtually on Monday, Feb. 8, 2021, to officially launch the SIS Project. The event followed the November 2020 announcement of Unit4 as the College’s new Student Information System and implementation partner.

Those gathered were also the first to learn the project has been rebranded, as R3, which stands for “rethink, redesign, reimagine.”

President Claude Brulé expanded on its meaning in his keynote address.

“It’s rethinking, redesigning, and reimagining the way we think about who we are and what we do as a College, the way we think about serving and interacting with our learners, our employees, and our alumni, and the way we think about our future,” he said.

He added that the project’s “people-centric” approach means employees will be involved, educated, trained and equipped to navigate the changes.

Project Executive Sponsor and Student Services Vice-President Laura Stanbra pointed out that the improvements achieved through the project would benefit both learners and employees.

“Our employees have always found ways to innovate and serve our learners better, and this redesigning of our processes and the way we work will really open new possibilities,” she said. “And, I hope that this can’t help but make you wonder, ‘What other ways can we rethink and innovate?’”

Other event highlights:

  • Senior Vice-President Academic Chris Janzen emphasized the role of the new Student Information System in securing the College’s future, in delivering a top learner experience, and in making Algonquin the College of choice for personalization in Ontario.
  • Project Executive Sponsor and Student Services Vice-President Laura Stanbra pointed to the employee experience and expectations. She praised how College employees always innovate to serve learners better and asked employees to imagine the possibilities redesigning might open up.
  • Students’ Association President Emily Ferguson remarked that more than 2,000 students participated in the student information system requirements gathering and said they were ready to participate in creating a student information system for the future.
  • Our Unit4 partners Vice-President Nick Schiavi, Director Keith Carter, and Program Manager Jessie Lum shared their perspective on how they and the College would work together to ensure success.
  • R3 Steering Committee member Eric Marois, Dean of the School of Advanced Technology, articulated the importance of the committee and his own commitment to active participation in committee work.
