Sandra Fraser
Centre for Students with Disabilities
I would like to commend Sandra Fraser for her professionalism in dealing with a student and faculty in the Developmental Services Worker Program. Rather than immediately supporting a student’s story regarding lack of faculty feedback, Sandra first investigated this story to ascertain the facts. She contacted the faculty directly. In this way she was able to ascertain the facts and assist the student in understanding these facts and her responsibility to attend classes and scheduled meetings with faculty.
Sandra’s professionalism and support for the student is commendable. In the past students have sometimes been undermined by not having this kind of support in understanding their situation. Sandra was able to help the student recognize her responsibilities and re-adjust her expectations for herself. This type of advocacy helped the student and also exemplified the kind of professionalism expected from the Centre for Students with Disabilities.
Sandra’s professionalism and prompt communication with faculty provides a teamwork model for staff. A solution to a problem that did not exist was reached because of Sandra’s willingness to check sources first before reacting, and her willingness to work as a member of the College team.
