Paul LaHaise
New Technology Store, Ancillary Services
I like to think of Paul as a Diamond in the Gruff. He may seem a little intimidating at first glance, with his strong booming voice but I believe he is truly here to help the entire college community.
Over the years he has supported the CSD and our shared clients with computer advice and solutions to many problems that we have faced. He is sensitive to the fact that computer problems can cause a significant amount of stress in people lives and is always looking for the best way to solve these problems.
A week or so before exams one of the students* I work with as an AT came to me with a significant issue on their laptop. The student’s laptop was no longer functioning (not even booting up) and all of his end of term projects and class material was on his laptop,
The student’s machine was under warranty with the manufacturer but he would not be able to have it serviced by them on time to help him. I connected with Paul in the New technology store for his best advice.. Paul explained some options and the fact that what Paul was going to do would not void any warranty agreements to help the student decide his next course of action.
Although Paul did not fix the students computer , he did identify a hard drive failure in the student’s laptop. Paul is to be commended for his calmness , his level of empathy with the situation and the level of professionalism and care he demonstrated when working with this student.
Things can get very busy around here especially around the end of a semester and close to Final Assessment and I did not want to forget to share this story with someone else so that more people know what a great job Paul does.
