Judy Sayeau
Finance & Administrative Services
Judy Sayeau has always shown her commitment to students by her initiative in creating Xmas baskets for students in need during the holiday season. But most recently, Judy read a newspaper article in the Ottawa Sun; “They’re Superheroes – Single dad juggles 5 kids and school”, while enjoying her Sunday morning breakfast and she felt compelled to help. Josh Bain, a mature 32-year-old student and single father of 5 children ranging in ages from 11 to 3 years old, was preparing to graduate from the Electrician program. As this article was about Father’s Day, he was asked what he’d like for a gift. His response was that he would like a set of screwdrivers or tools as he had very little and was preparing to begin his career. When Judy read this article, she immediately cut it out and brought it in to work on Monday. As the Fixed Assets Clerk, she knew that the College had the resources to help this young father. She immediately scanned the document and sent it to her Director for permission to give him surplus tools that were no longer needed by the programs. With permission granted, Judy jumped into action and contacted many areas of the College and was able to obtain a laptop, palm sander, a shopvac, and various other surplus tools for this student.
The student was contacted and asked to come to the College to collect this generous donation. When he arrived with his mother, he was elated to receive the invaluable tools that would help him get started in his new career. Judy was quick to point out that this was all made possible due to the generosity of Algonquin College.
