Sharon Rendle
Centre for Continuing and Online Learning
For the Spring 2013 start-up in Online Learning, one key staff member was away on medical leave and one key position was vacant. Sharon Rendle who is the Administrative Coordinator for Online Learning took the lead and covered all the positions to ensure a seamless and effective start-up for our students. Currently there are 6,000 students enrolled in online courses for the spring term. She worked tirelessly during the start-up to ensure that courses were properly replicated on Blackboard, facilitators were assigned, new facilitators were properly oriented, homerooms were set up for all full-time students, student accounts were activated promptly, student enquiries responded to within the same business day, and the list goes on. While responding to the demands of start-up, Sharon is also involved in long term projects such as the implementation of eTexts,! and building improvements to our technology infrastructure.
Independently, Sharon is an essential knowledge base whose quick problem solving ensures the delivery of quality education; it is as a member of our team however, where Sharon truly shines. Her ability to cover multiple positions during Spring start-up is a demonstration of the ‘team first’ attitude she brings every day. Her attention to detail and positive outlook is a driving force for improving the work of her peers. Her quality of work is frequently mentioned by her co-workers, and it is no surprise to hear the same feedback from facilitators and students. A recent comment from a potential student regarding Sharon: “I honestly have to say, that in a sometimes cold, impersonal, email world, Sharon’s quick response was refreshing and appreciated.”
We truly appreciate her efforts and feel that she is the perfect candidate for a President’s Star Award.
