The faculty has done an outstanding job in bringing experiential learning to life by partnering with the Children’s Wish charity. Sylvia Densmore, Sophia Bouris, Ben Dinh, Melanie Estable-Porter, Caron Fitzpatrick, Stephanie Lockhart, Marye Menard-Bos, Sandy Ouellette, Larry Weatherdon and Celine Perrier consistently demonstrate a commitment to teaching excellence.
Under the leadership and guidance of the professors the students in the event management program are given the tools and support to showcase what they have learned in the classroom and leveraged these skills to improve the lives of special children in our community.
To date the Event Management program has raised close to $350,000 for the Children’s Wish and has created 5 years of outstanding fundraising events, all with no operating budget.
The activities have provided outstanding positive exposure for Algonquin College and a range of support from all major media outlets in the city, in addition to involvement of innumerable local businesses providing gifts in kind.
I strongly support the awarding of the President’s STARS to this amazing group of professional who truly have gone above and beyond to create excitement about the Event Management Program and Algonquin College, as an organization where learning and community go hand in hand.
