Top Employer Announcement
The prepared remarks of President Claude Brulé.
January 28, 2020
Thank you, Diane, for all the work you and your team have done on the Culture Book — Your Culture Book. I was proud to be one of the contributors and I am looking forward to reading the contributions of others.
As for the Best-Kept Secret at Algonquin College…
The first time this happened, it really was a great surprise for everyone. The second year, I think it was a surprise, too. But by the time we scored a hat trick, it was getting harder and harder to keep these top-secret events under wraps because, you know, people started to figure it all out. We tried all kinds of incentives to get you out to these mystery events…and I’m guessing that for most of you here today, there is really no mystery. And it’s not the timing of the event, although that’s a good clue.
You know because you are our employees —you, of all people, are not surprised to hear today that we have been declared one of the National Capital Region’s Top Employers for the seventh year in a row.
This is definitely worth a round of applause.
Before we get down to the business of celebrating, I’d like to take a moment to thank everyone in Human Resources and Communications for their efforts to submit our College for consideration on this list. I’d like to thank Diane for her leadership, and our College community for making Algonquin College such a great place to work. I’d also like to remind everyone — and this is important — that this information is not for public release until tomorrow, when the annual Top Employers supplement will be in the Ottawa Citizen. But until then, I need to ask you to hold off on Twitter and Instagram and help us keep the Best-Kept Secret for just a few more hours.
I want to emphasize that we are among the best because of the connections we foster between employees and learners, between management and employees, and between the College and our community.
But we are also among the best because of what you, our employees, bring to work with you each and every day — a spirit that reflects our core College values of caring, learning, integrity and respect, whether you are finding innovative new ways to teach our learners, or helping each other find solutions within your departments, or building bridges into the community.
Thank you to everyone. While I am not at all surprised that we have received this recognition, I am very proud — of our College, of our supportive and inclusive environment, and especially of all of our employees who have made this possible.
Thank you. Merci. Miigwetch.
