Do you have to be a paramedic to apply to this program?
Yes. This program is designed to enhance existing paramedic skills. You must be a current Primary Care Paramedic (PCP), with an Advanced Emergency Medical Care Attendant Certificate (A-EMCA), in good standing, issued from the Ontario Ministry of Health or equivalency. To obtain PCP equivalency please see the following link:

How long does the program last?
The program is 10 months in duration.

What does the schedule look like?
The in-class component lasts 13 weeks and is spread over 3 days a week—all day Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Following the in class component, you will complete 200 hours of hospital practicum spread over 24 weeks and overlapping preceptorship. The ambulance practicum, preceptorship, length is a minimum of 400 hours starting in late February.

What is the cost?
You will find more information on costs for this program on the Tuition and Fees webpage

Do you have a choice where you can do your field placements?
Generally yes, but it cannot be guaranteed. Every effort is made to place students in local hospitals and ambulance services; however, given the high demand, students may be required to complete their placements in other venues across Ontario. It will depend on placement availability.

Are you able to choose your hospital and preceptorship placement service or region?
Every effort is made to accommodate student requests for hospital and paramedic placements, however, due to high demand for some venues students may be required to complete their placements in other areas across Ottawa or Ontario. Specific requests for placements inside or outside the Ottawa catchment area will be reviewed on an individual basis.
Students may incur additional costs and delays in graduation due to local administrative and legislative differences specific to those hospital or paramedic services. Any additional or ancillary cost arising from special placement requests e.g., preceptorship fees, are assumed by the student. Students are responsible for transportation and parking costs related to the hospital clinical and paramedic placement sites.
