Additional program related expenses include:

• The certification fee for the Advanced Care Paramedic examination administered by the Ontario Ministry of Health is $100 (subject to change).
• Base Hospital student certification is $500.
• Additional costs related to assessments and testing (including police records check, health information, exam fees), elective resource materials, parking, hospital ID cards and scrubs, and preceptorship may be incurred.

Program Eligibility

• A two-year Ontario College Primary Care Paramedic Diploma and an Advanced-Emergency Care Assistant (A-EMCA or equivalent) certificate issued by the Ministry of Health, Emergency Health Services Branch Ontario are required for acceptance into the Advanced Care Paramedic program. Applicants with pending status are eligible to apply.
• All applicants must complete an assessment through the Test Centre, and will be required to pay an examination fee. Results from the assessment will be utilized to establish minimum eligibility and applicant ranking.
• Applicants with a 1,000 hours of experience, working as a land or air paramedic, will have 10 points added to their test score, provided that the minimum test score has been met.
• To obtain the 10 points, a signed letter from the employer must be submitted on Paramedic Service letterhead at the time of application attesting that the candidate has worked a minimum of a 1,000 hours as a land or air paramedic.
• Applicants must possess a valid Ontario Class F driver`s licence or equivalent prior to the start of classes.
• Applicants with international transcripts must provide proof of the subject-specific requirements noted above and may be required to provide proof of language proficiency. Domestic applicants with international transcripts must be evaluated through the International Credential Assessment Service of Canada (ICAS) or World Education Services (WES).
• IELTS-International English Language Testing Service (Academic) Overall band of 6.5 with a minimum of 6.0 in each band; OR TOEFL-Internet-based (iBT)-overall 88, with a minimum of 22 in each component: Reading 22; Listening 22; Speaking 22; Writing 22; OR Duolingo English Test (DET) Overall 120, minimum of 120 in Literacy and no score below 105.
• Accepted applicants must submit a Health Assessment Form and provide an Immunization certificate prior to entry into the program.
• Applicants must submit proof of mask fit testing quantitative only.
• Applicants are required to submit a recent Police Records Check.

Police Records Check Documentation:
Though not an admission requirement, applicants must note important information listed below regarding Police Records Check program requirements.

Successful completion of clinical placement is a requirement for graduation from the Advanced Care Paramedic program. Agencies that provide placement opportunities require you to have a clear Police Records Check for Service with the Vulnerable Sector (PRCSVS). Your acceptance for placement is at the discretion of the agency. If you register in the program without a clear PRCSVS and as a result are unable to participate in placement, you will not be able to graduate.

Clinical Placement Eligibility:
To be eligible for placement, applicants must complete the list of required documents below and have proof of all when meeting with the Advanced Care Program Field Placement Officer to be cleared for placement. All associated costs are to be paid by the applicant.

• Seasonal influenza immunization
• COVID-19 vaccination (mandatory)
• Algonquin College Health Services Immunization Form (with serology)
• Measles/Mumps/Rubella; Varicella; Tuberculosis; Pertussis; Polio; Hepatitis B; Communicable Diseases Attestation
• Standard First Aid
• CPR HCP (Level C is no longer accepted)
• N95 fit testing (provided by Algonquin College)
• Criminal Record Check - Vulnerable Sector
• WHMIS (provided by us)
• AODA - Accessibility Training (provided by us)
• MOL - Safety Awareness for Workers Training (provided by us)
• Driver`s License
• Affirmation of mandatory second uniform and safety items

It is your responsibility to obtain the PRCSVS from your local Police Department prior to the deadline identified by your Department and to pay any associated costs. It may take a long time to obtain this documentation; please submit your application as early as possible.

Hospital and Field Practicums require Health and Safety, WHMIS and OWHSA training, as well as High Risk Personal Protective Equipment training prior to placements. There are costs associated with training that should be anticipated by the students, which are not covered by tuition fees. Should you require further information, contact the Program Coordinator.
