“Work placement at the Perth and Smith Falls District Hospital has given me the experience and knowledge of what it is like to be a true Executive Administrative Assistant. The staff is friendly and they are willing to teach you new things. The experience gained is priceless.”

“Work placement is a wonderful hands-on way to experience a job before entering the job market. A practical way to find out what you want to do with the education you obtained. Working at an elementary school is not something I would have considered before coming to College as I would not have been qualified, but now I’m sure that is exactly what I want to do with my life.”
“The Office Administrative – Executive Program not only allowed me to fast track graduation, but it presented the reality of today’s fast-paced environment, provided priceless computer and office skills, and allowed for personal growth. Our ten-day work placement was extremely valuable as it allowed us hands-on experience for the skills and knowledge gained from the program. I would strongly recommend this program, especially to those who lack the current computer skills and need to update fast. It is not just about office work, the opportunities are endless!”
“The Office Administration Executive graduate that we hired has enhanced the office atmosphere with her knowledge, skill and professionalism. She has brought elements and talents to our office that we were not aware we needed. She quickly became an integral part of our business.”
“The key to success in any business is to have good staff to implement good ideas. Algonquin College Heritage Institute’s graduates from the Office Administration – Executive program are good people, well trained, and able to excel in a rapidly changing environment.”
“Last November, we had an opening for a position in our Special Education Department in Kemptville. From 80 applicants, we chose one of your Office Administration – Executive graduates. We have been impressed with her excellent organizational and time-management skills. Her extensive computer knowledge has enabled her to quickly adapt to her job duties and be of assistance to other staff members. She conducts herself in a professional manner, is very confident in what she is doing, and is always willing to take on new projects and duties. She is a definite asset to this School Board.”
“My new job is going great! I just got back from a trip to Winnipeg where our organization was putting on a huge conference about Canadian Palliative Care. I was really happy to have taken the Office Administration – Executive program because I was in charge of many of the computer troubleshooting issues while on site. I also had to prepare several PowerPoint presentations that were used throughout the event. I’m responsible for marketing, resource orders, and memberships. I also provide general support to the other office staff, so I help them out with other tasks as required. So far I really love what I am doing!”

“This program proved to be challenging (as expected in a condensed course); yet, very rewarding. The number of skills that I learned in the 45 weeks that I was there was amazing! I considered myself to be very knowledgeable with computers, and was surprised with how much I still learned. Not only that, I mastered accounting which I didn’t think was possible. Shortly after finishing the program, I received a position at Aviva Pilot Insurance in Ottawa, ON. I first started in a contract position as a Claims Assistant and approximately 5 months into my contract, I was offered a permanent position as the Administrative Assistant. It is a wonderful company, and I know without the education I received at Algonquin College, I would not be here today.”
“Completing the Office Administrative-Executive Program on a part-time basis enabled me to focus on my family and also concentrate on my studies so that I could gain the confidence I needed to compete in today’s job market. As a result of taking the program, I am employed and working on a variety of projects: desktop publishing – including a seasonal calendar of events, organizing local information session luncheons, and cataloguing a library of over 1,000 books and videos for a new resource library. My decision-making and problem-solving skills have proven me to be a capable and invaluable part of the office administrative support team. Thank you Algonquin College.”
“I was 35 years old when I decided I needed a change. As a single parent, I was barely making ends meet at a minimum wage job. Then I saw an ad for Algonquin College Office Administration Executive Program at the Perth campus. I spoke with office staff and enquired about student loans. Although the first month was a little daunting, I stuck it out and it has changed my life in so many positive ways. As a part of the work placement component of the program, I chose to work in the Centre for Students with Disabilities located on the Woodroffe campus of Algonquin College. The experience I gained working in a real-world environment was invaluable. I was given real experience, not just filing. It also taught me a lesson in networking. While working in the Centre, I was able to talk with, and put out feelers for potential jobs within the college. I now work for the Office and Legal Studies Department of Algonquin College.”
