Salary Range: $25.02 – $32.13 per hour as per approved 2024 Wage Grid

Job Summary:
The Town of Carleton Place is seeking a skilled Machine Operator II to join our Public Works team on a winter seasonal, temporary full-time basis. Reporting to the Public Works Superintendent, the successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining the Town’s infrastructure, with a primary focus on winter operations, including snow and ice management. This position ensures the safety and accessibility of roads, sidewalks, and parking lots during the winter months.

Key Responsibilities:
• Perform snow removal, sanding, and salting of municipal roads, sidewalks, and parking lots using Town equipment.
• Conduct winter road maintenance, including clearing snowbanks, applying de-icing materials, and ensuring public safety during adverse weather conditions.
• Respond to weather-related emergencies, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
• Operate light municipal equipment to perform winter maintenance duties.
• Perform routine maintenance and checks on winter maintenance equipment.
• Complete required documentation, including daily time sheets and maintenance logs.
• Adhere to and enforce safety regulations at all times.

Qualifications:
• Secondary School Graduation Diploma or G.E.D.
• Minimum of three (3) years’ direct experience in municipal infrastructure maintenance, with a focus on winter operations preferred.
• Valid Class “DZ” Ontario driver’s license (abstract required).
• Strong knowledge of snow removal and road maintenance techniques.
• Ability to operate Town-owned light equipment safely and efficiently.
• Must respond to emergencies within 20 minutes when designated.

Working Conditions:
• Flexible schedule required, including shifts during evenings, weekends, holidays, and extended hours for snow events or weather emergencies.
• Physical demands include lifting up to 30 kg unassisted, working outdoors in freezing temperatures, and using manual and powered tools.
• Exposure to all weather conditions, including snow, ice, and extreme cold.
