Welcome to the Student Support Lab! This free service provides one-on-one or small group support, in-person or virtually, to students in a number of subject areas. Our Coach for the Fall 2024 term is Nicole Shaw.
Fall 2024 Coaching Hours
September 4th – December 19th, 2024
Mondays 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and 12:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Wednesdays 8:00 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. and 12:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Thursdays (Virtual appointments only) 4:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m.

How Coaches Can Help
Coaches can guide students through subject matter, but will not complete students’ work for them.
Coaches can provide assistance with the following:
- Review of concepts
- Introduction to software
- Help to develop self-editing techniques
- Clarification of concepts and questions
Coaches CANNOT provide assistance with any of the following:
- Editing or proofreading of assignments
- Completing of assignments
- Answers to questions in students’ assignments or tests
Preparing for Your Appointment
In order to get the most benefit from the time you have with a coach, arrive at or connect to your coaching session prepared with the following:
- Any specific questions you have for your coach related to the coaching subject
- Materials for which you need support, such as textbooks, course notes, etc.
- A piece of your own writing, such as an essay, a research paper, etc. (for writing coaching)
- Any course work you are struggling to understand
Who Can Book an Appointment?
Appointments are for Pembroke Campus students only. Ottawa and Perth students may book with the Coaching Lab.
Maximum Appointments Per Day/Week
Book up to a maximum of one hour a day (two half-hour time blocks).
Book up to a maximum of two hours a week.
Book up to two weeks in advance.
What if There are No Available Appointments?
If a student does not arrive for their scheduled appointment within 10 minutes of its start time, the coach will release the appointment back into the booking system. Please check back to see if an appointment has opened up at your preferred time.
Ottawa Campus’ Coaching Lab offers backup coaching services to Pembroke students. If appointments with Pembroke coaches are unavailable, please visit the Ottawa Library’s Coaching Lab website.
Cancelling an Appointment
If you cannot attend your appointment, you are expected to cancel as early as possible in advance of your appointment time. Please cancel using the cancellation link provided in your confirmation email. If you do not have your confirmation email, cancel using the Session Cancellation Form.
Missed Appointments
Two hours prior to your scheduled appointment time, a reminder will be sent to your College email address.
If you have not arrived for your appointment within 10 minutes of its scheduled start time, the appointment will be released for other students to book.
Failure to arrive on time for your appointment could result in your appointment being marked as a ‘No Show’.
Students credited with two No Shows in a semester will be suspended from using the Student Support Lab for that remainder of the semester.
Appeal Process
If you wish to appeal a ‘No Show’ ruling, you must email Library staff at illpemb@algonquincollege.com within 48 hours to discuss the situation in detail. Extenuating circumstances will be taken into consideration.
