Post-Secondary Pathways
There are many different pathways that lead to post-secondary studies. Below are some of the pathways available at the Pembroke Campus.
Dual Credit
An opportunity for Grade 11 or Grade 12 high school students to:
- experience the college environment
- earn Algonquin College credit(s) AND credit towards the Ontario Secondary School Diploma
- gain a head start on career training
- discover vocational pathways
The Dual Credit program is an exciting opportunity to come to college while you are in high school and earn a credit at both institutions. You will be completing a real College course that counts towards a certificate, diploma or degree program. Since you are completing this college course, you will be registered at Algonquin College, given a student number and have access to all the College technologies, including email and Brightspace.
Because funding is provided through the School|College|Work Initiative there is no, or very little cost to the student.
This program exists to help you discover what educational or career pathway is right for you and to help get you closer to the goal of graduating high school.

Summer SWAC (School Within a College)
Responding to success and demand, Algonquin College, in partnership with the Renfrew County District School Board (RCDSB) and the Renfrew County Catholic School Board (RCCDSB), is pleased to offer the Summer SWAC opportunity. Through Summer SWAC, students will have an opportunity to recover one high school credit and, through the Dual Credit model, also earn a full high school credit, along with a linked College credit. This will take place during the month of July.
Students whose graduation with OSSD in June is at-risk, and whose Fall post-secondary admission is at risk, will be especially interested in this opportunity. Students will be registered both at Algonquin College and through the local school boards.
Articulation Agreements or Degree Pathways
Agreements between Algonquin College and other post-secondary institutions that facilitate recognition of prior postsecondary study and transfer credit or admission to upper levels of study. As a result, it may take you less time to complete another credential or, result in a reduced course load. This means that you may enter the job market sooner and potentially save time and money.
Unless otherwise stipulated, you are subject to the admission requirements of the partnering institution. Please note that every effort is made to reflect current pathway information – however, it may be subject to change.
