Own it! Resiliency!
Resiliency
Definition: The capacity to recover quickly from difficulties; toughness.
“A person who knows themselves knows what they need, and knows how to get what they need “
How do I be resilient? One of the ways to do so is to retrieve what’s already inside you that you know has gotten you through hard things before.
Start sentences with I have… I am… I can… I will…
I have… done well on mid-term exams before.
I am… currently balancing college, part-time work AND doing so during a global pandemic.
I can… research solutions on my own and figure out the problem I’m facing.
I will… get all my assignments done this week so I can relax and have fun this weekend!

TED Talk – From Stress to Resilience
Having a challenging time right now? Try the “Birthday Cake Breathing”
- Recognize that you’re feeling overwhelmed right now
- Then close your eyes and imagine your birthday cake is right in front of you… (this quiets the mental chatter in your brain)
- Take a deep breath in… (intake of oxygen tells your body that you’re ok)
- Then blow out the candles on your birthday cake… (breath out, slowly, calmly)
- Then open your eyes – and carry on. You can do hard things.
