Pay Your Tuition Fee Deposit
All new domestic full-time students who have not applied for OSAP must pay a $500.00 non-refundable Tuition Deposit in their initial term of an academic year. This non-refundable $500.00 deposit payment secures the student’s seat in their program for the year and is put towards the balance of fees owing for that term. Algonquin College students who have applied for OSAP are eligible for a deferral of their $500.00 non-refundable tuition deposit through their ACSIS account. Please view the Payment Due Dates site for more detailed due date information.
Upon payment or deferral of the $500.00 non-refundable Tuition Deposit, the remaining fees are deferred automatically. The Balance Due Date will be three weeks after the start of their term. If a student is late paying that remaining balance, they will be assessed a $150.00 late payment penalty.

Make Your Financial Plan
It’s important to have a financial plan, and there are a variety of resources to help you – we’ve highlighted a few options below.
Ontario Student Assistance Program (OSAP)
The Ontario Student Assistance Program (OSAP) is a financial aid program that can make it easier for you to pay for school. Visit ontario.ca/OSAP to learn more about the application process. The sooner you submit your OSAP application, the better!
OSAP offers two different types of funding:
- Grants: Money you don’t have to pay back
- Loans: Money you need to repay
Did you know…
- OSAP offers both loans and grants through the provincial and federal government in one convenient application
- You can always decline the loan portion of your funding and only accept the grant portion
- Once you are approved for OSAP, you can defer your $500 tuition deposit fee until your funding is released in your first term

Transfer of Credit and Course Exemptions
Algonquin College recognizes previous academic and employment experience.
Your experience counts. Reward what you’ve done in your past to enrich your future. As well, Algonquin College may offer recognition for your previously earned college and/or university course credits.
Transfer Credit
Have you completed courses in the last five years at a recognized post-secondary institution and achieved a 2.0 GPA (C, 63%) or greater?
If so, you could be eligible for exemption from one or more of your required courses at Algonquin College. Please visit the Course Exemptions and Credit Transfers webpage to learn more about the process.
Note: Electives and certain other courses, at the department’s discretion, may have an extended time limit.
Questions? Contact Emily Quenneville, quennee@algonquincollege.com or 613-735-4700 x2811 to discuss the process.
Prior Learning Assessment and Recognition (PLAR)
PLAR is a process that assists adult learners to identify, articulate and demonstrate relevant learning acquired through life and work experiences and translate this learning into college credit.
You can apply for a general education course credit using PLAR by demonstrating that you have acquired college-level learning that addresses one of the general education themes required for your program.
Advanced Standing
If you’ve already earned some postsecondary credits, you can transfer your credits or be considered for admission to upper levels of study.
This means it may take you less time to complete your diploma/degree or you may have a reduced course load, resulting in a more comfortable school/work/life balance. It also means you may enter the job market sooner and potentially save time and money on your education.
Individual Transfer Credit is awarded to students who have completed a similar or equivalent course at another postsecondary institution that is considered equal in content or academic value.
Contact Emily Quenneville, quennee@algonquincollege.com or 613-735-4700 x2811 to discuss your advanced standing application process.

Attend Orientation

AC Start Orientation takes place in the lead-up to AC Day 1 and is a great opportunity to get organized before the start of the school year. AC Start Orientation also helps you access important academic and support services in a one-stop-shop setting.

Sponsored Students
All domestic full-time students, new and returning, in a post-secondary or graduate certificate program are required to pay a $500 non-refundable Tuition Deposit in their initial term during an academic year. This $500 non-refundable Tuition Deposit is used towards the balance of fees due for that term, and secures the student’s seat in their program for the entire academic year.
Sponsored students are not required to pay this $500 Tuition Deposit in advance; however students are required to provide sponsor letters to the college by the prescribed due date in order to avoid losing their seat in their program. The sponsor letter will act as the $500 Tuition Deposit. Given the non-refundable nature of the Tuition Deposit, in cases where a student withdraws from their program during the refund period or chooses not to attend Algonquin College, a $500 fee will be invoiced directly to the sponsor. As always, sponsored students who withdraw after the refund period will have their full term fees invoiced to the sponsor.
