Program Requirement Types: Each individual program will have its own requirements in addition to College Requirements. These can range from completing certain high school subject classes with a minimum grade or even writing an assessment. You must submit all requirements for your application to advance. Please read all the information on the webpage of your program of choice, including the section titled Admission Requirements, to ensure you are able to satisfy all requirements.
Academic Requirements: Some programs require that you have taken certain subjects in High School and have completed them with a certain grade. More competitive or more academically challenging programs may have stricter requirements to ensure you are prepared for the academic rigors of the program. If you do not have the necessary grades for certain subjects, but the rest of your application is satisfactory, you may be invited to test for English or Math subjects you are missing and demonstrate the appropriate academic knowledge.
Our Practical Nursing program requires that all applicants write the Algonquin College Health Program Admissions Test (AC-HPAT). Learn more about this admissions test and review sample questions on our Testing Services site.
Additional Requirements: Certain programs may require some non-academic admission requirements such as references, questionnaires, or other demonstrations of experience or knowledge. You must submit all necessary requirements in your application for it to be considered. Please read your program webpage carefully to ensure you are able to satisfy all requirements. A list of all programs with additional requirements is available.
Does Algonquin College offer advanced standing for work completed in high school that would allow students to graduate from Algonquin College sooner?
Yes. If students have completed a Dual Credit course(s) they may be eligible to put their credit toward the program that they are registered in. This will not allow them to graduate sooner, but it will lessen their course load during their studies.
Does Algonquin College offer alternate offers of admission to students?
Yes. In certain instances, we will offer students alternate offers of admission. The student will be contacted to let them know of their new opportunity.
Can a student switch from one program to another midstream in their program?
Yes. It is recommended that a student complete their term so that some or all of their credits can be transferred to their new program. Depending on the comparability of the two programs, there may be some additional length added to the overall duration of their studies.
Is the Pembroke Waterfront Campus facility fully accessible?
Yes. Our Campus follows the Government of Ontario accessibility compliance regulations and AODA standards.
What measures have been taken to make student safety a high priority?
- 100% of our Student Services team is trained in Mental Health First Aid
- We have a dedicated security guard on campus at all times that the building is open
