Kumon Center Assistant – 3 Hrs a week based in Pembroke

Department: Kumon

Accountability: Work is performed under the direct guidance of the Kumon Instructor

POSITION SUMMARY:

Center Assistants support the Kumon Instructor and/or Assistant Instructors in a variety of instructional and center management tasks. Job responsibilities are assigned by the Kumon Instructor and/or Assistant Instructors based upon the needs of each center. This position is part-time and may require you to work evenings and or on the weekend.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Kumon Center Assistant will:

Relay messages and Parental concerns to the Instructor or Assistant Instructor in a timely manner
Prepare student files
Developing own knowledge of Kumon method and worksheets
Assisting with marketing initiatives and retention events (ex: student awards, goal-setting parties
Support Customer Service issues as they arise

DUTIES PERFORMED BY A KUMON CENTER ASSISTANT ON A REGULAR BASIS:

Early Learner/Primary Instruction:

Working efficiently and effectively with one or two younger or new Kumon students at a time to provide instruction through utilization of the Kumon Method and worksheets
Ensure proper study habits and work skills are being developed and train the students in center routine
Individualizing strategies for student development based on student goals and communication with Instructor
On-going assessment of student skills development
Work closely with Instructor to develop and understand lesson plan and goals for each student in order to properly administer instruction individually

Grading:

Grading of student classwork, homework, and corrections and organizing of Student worksheets
Ensuring Student classwork is completed and corrected to 100%
Assessing oral reading ability with reading students and providing necessary feedback
Provide assistance/guidance to students, as needed, adhering to Kumon Method standards and center procedures
Provide Instructor with written or verbal feedback, as needed, based on student observations and/or student performance on worksheets
Work with other grading assistants to create a balanced workload to ensure grading is completed before the end of class

Front Desk:

Answer incoming phone calls
Communicating with students and parents during class-time, addressing student and parental needs, professionally, quickly, and quietly
Assist with book check in/out
Booking Center Appointments
Assisting with the enrollment process

SKILL REQUIREMENTS:

Strong verbal communication skills, intermediate written communication skills preferred
Proficient math skills an asset
Proficient in basic computer usage
Customer service minded individual
Ability to identify systemic barriers to equity and anti-oppressive practices and apply this lens to your work with FCSRC.
Knowledge, experience, and understanding of the culture, history and current oppressions experienced by marginalized groups.
Ability to understand and apply anti-colonial, anti-racist, anti-ableist, anti-cisgenderist, anti-ageist, anti-classist, anti-heterosexist lenses to social problems.
Understanding of the CYFSA, Signs of Safety, Anti-Oppressive Practice and Strength-Based approach

KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE

Strong proficiency in high school Math and/or English
Available to work evenings and/or weekends and perform various tasks within the Centre as assigned
Maintain regular and consistent attendance and punctuality
Ability to work as part of a team and build relationships with coworkers and customers
Strong interpersonal and communication skills
Love of learning
WORKING CONDITIONS

Normal office working condition apply
Ability to travel and work out of different offices within Renfrew County

SALARY:

Student wage $16.20 per hour

Non student wage $17.20 per hour
