Job Description: This is a seasonal position running from May 20, 2025 until October 10, 2025. The Gardener Trainee will work alongside our current Waterfront Gardener who will be retiring at the end of the 2025 season. Altogether, 31 gardens will be prepared for planting, then planted with various annuals, perennials and shrubs, maintained (including weeding, watering, pruning). At the end of the season plants are removed and cut back for the winter. The park is also maintained by weeding key areas such as the Timber Crib, Wheelchair Pad, Clouthier Courtyard, edging along the boardwalk, Arboretum and Waterfall.
The Waterfront Gardener Trainee will also act as a good-will ambassador for the City of Pembroke. The park receives many visitors throughout the summer months and positive interaction with the public is an important part of this position.
Requirements:
Gardening knowledge
Comfortable with the use of various gardening tools
Excellent time-management skills
Works well with others
Ability to work independently without supervision
Friendly personality
Have own transportation
Physically able to perform all the necessary gardening tasks
Passionate about your work
Rate of Pay: starting at $19.00 per hour / 30 hours per week for 21 weeks (with flexibility due to weather conditions)
