TreeWiseGuys is in search of a grounds-person looking to gain experience as an arborist in the Parry Sound District. As a young & rapidly growing business (6th season) we are able to offer you the unique opportunity to acquire one-on-one training in the field on a daily basis, and a chance to build a long-term career with TreeWiseGuys. You’ll be working under the supervision of veteran arborists with over 25 years of combined experience. As a company that deals mainly in residential cottage-country tree maintenance, we are faced with interesting challenges every day that require technical rigging, expert risk assessment & creative solutions. We see this as an opportunity to train you to become an extremely skilled, knowledgeable & precise arborist. We are well equipped, professionally trained & prepared to tackle the variety of scenarios our trade presents us. We value safety, communication and team morale above all else. On top of all that, we are absolutely spoiled by the beauty of Muskoka and it’s many lakes, as well as the friendliest clients in the industry. We do not require any formal post-secondary education however it is a huge asset, alongside other traits such as relevant trade experience, a driver’s licence, willingness to relocate, eagerness to learn, etc. We do require candidates have completed their secondary education (high school).

The selected applicant will be expected to…

Work under the supervision & expectations of TreeWiseGuys crew leaders
Be reliable, professional & engaged
Prepare work-site (Assess job/participate in tailboard, unload gear, tool checks, saw sharpening/fuelling, rope management, etc.)
Follow/Participate in TreeWiseGuys Jobber Schedule to ensure preparation, smoothness & full understanding of jobs
Communicate with crew to create awareness & understanding of tasks
Moving, stacking & cleaning brush piles/woody debris
Moving/stacking large pieces of wood
Cutting brush/trunk wood with small & large chainsaws (training to be provided if necessary)
Safely operating wood-chipper/stump grinder/mini skid-steer (heavy machinery operation is an asset)
Learn how to tie appropriate knots, as well as how different rigging systems work and when to apply them
Learning how to fell trees (with/without mechanical advantage), safely felling hazardous/storm damaged trees.
Learn how to accurately diagnose tree conditions/assess risk
Learn how to properly plant nursery trees and promote longevity/growth
Work on-site with boom lifts/cranes/heavy machinery
Learn how to maintain professional grade tools/equipment

Our work is seasonal & so are the employment contracts, providing 40+ hour work weeks between the months of March – December (optional weekend work available as well). We are still in the fertility stages of our business so there is no ceiling on how far you can grow with our business, as we continue to develop the company. We aim to build a long-term team, and are eager to invest our time/compensation into the right candidate.
