Changes in parking lots 15, 16, 17 – Updates you need to know!

Changes to parking lots 15, 16, and 17 for Fall 2024 at Algonquin CollegeAs a response to customer feedback, user demand, and the evolving nature of on-campus parking, the Parking Services team is completing the following changes that will take effect at the beginning of the Fall 2024 term.

Lot 15 and Lot 17 prices will be aligned to increase availability and flexibility

Starting with permits sold for the 2024-25 Academic Year (available July 9, 2024), the pricing of employee parking Lots 15 and 17 will be aligned, which will allow for permit holders of 15 and 17 to use both lots, ultimately increasing flexibility and availability in both lots.

Lot 17 was originally created as a temporary lot to offset the loss of parking spots in Lot 8 during the construction of the Jack Doyle Athletics and Recreation Centre. Lot 17 became very popular as it is in a premium location while maintaining Lot 8 prices. As a consequence, demand skyrocketed, and a lengthy waitlist formed.

The cost for an annual Lot 15 or Lot 17 parking permit will be slightly less than the 2023-24 price in Lot 15, but slightly more than the 2023-24 price in Lot 17. Full details about parking rates for the 2024-25 academic year can be found on the Parking website.

Employees who are Lot 17 and Lot 15 permit holders will be able to park in either lot, increasing flexibility and convenience, allowing us to offer more permits to those on the waitlist, and increasing flexibility on days that there is higher usage of one or the other lots.

Lot 16 introduces student-only pilot project

In response to student feedback, and an effort to assist with affordability for our students, a student-only one term (Fall 2024) permit will be made available in Lot 16. This pilot permit is being tested in the Fall term.

This single-term permit is aimed to support students who, after paying for tuition, student fees, and often housing costs, may not have money available at the start of the term to afford an annual permit.

This new option will be more cost-effective than purchasing several monthly permits throughout the term, a practice many students currently choose now. Full details about parking rates for the 2024-25 academic year can be found on the Parking website.
