Welcome
Welcome to the website for Algonquin College’s Program Advisory Committees (PAC).
Program Advisory Committees are an important component of College life. The PACs are a mandated entity for all full-time programs offered by the College. The volunteer members of the committees bring a wealth of specialized professional knowledge to the programs. Their work helps ensure students of Algonquin College receive a relevant and practical education that readies them to meet the demands of today’s workplace and the expectations of employers. Algonquin’s Program Advisory Committee Policy provides further details including reference to the Minister’s Binding Policy Directive: Framework for Programs of Instruction. All relevant policies may be found in the Member Resources section.
This site provides guidelines for the recruitment of members and conduct of the PACs which typically meet two/three time each year. It also showcases some of the highly accomplished individuals — often entrepreneurs, employers and innovators — current or past members who have made time to chair or participate on the College’s more than 120 Program Advisory Committees. It highlights their careers and the reasons they dedicate their time to the College and students.
These volunteers understand the importance of quality, continuous improvement and cutting-edge technology in the workplace and in the classroom. They have industry connections that could lead to partnerships and work-integrated learning opportunities, including co-operative education placements, benefitting the education of our learners.
Further, they are aware of the industry trends and labour market needs. As subject-matter experts, they are well-positioned to advise the College about enhancing existing programs or creating new ones to advance the skills, graduation rates and lifetime success of our students. Their recommendations are regularly shared with the College executive team.
PAC members are goodwill ambassadors for the College, increasing awareness of the school’s role in training generations of learners to meet the needs of the community and region it serves. They also provide guidance in establishing scholarships and bursaries for students.
At the bottom of this page you will find a few of the community volunteers who have served as PAC Chairs, either current or past.
