COURSE DESCRIPTIONS
MAD1000 User Experience and Interface Design
In the modern business environment, products and services that are intuitive, easy to use and satisfy customer needs are critical for success in the marketplace. Using a practical, applied approach, students develop a thorough understanding of the user experience design field, from requirements gathering methodologies to interaction design tools and user interface evaluation. Students apply design principles and rules to create useful and compelling interfaces for the web and mobile environments, with a focus on the end user experience.
MTM1010 Web and Mobile Design Techniques
Students design product and service apps in a flexible, iterative process drawing from the psychology and cognitive science disciplines, as well as software engineering. Students bring a design to life through a combination of prototyping techniques, styles and tools. Students build effective prototypes of their designs regardless of artistic talent, access to special software or programming ability. Design guidance and rationale including user interface standards, style guides, design principles and accessibility are examined to improve the user experience.
Pre-requisites: MAD1000
MAD1010 User Experience Analysis
User-centred design focuses on people, their work, their environments and how technology can best be deployed to support them. The secret to successful design thus lies in understanding the user within an overall context. Students employ research techniques to determine user characteristics and limitations relevant to interface design. Students base their user-centred designs on user profiles, personas, task analysis and environmental aspects.
Pre-requisites: MAD1000
MAD1020 User Interface Evaluation
Validating the design is essential to the success of any application. The goal of user interface evaluations is to make products and services more usable, easy to learn and intuitive for the user. Students create an evaluation strategy and validate user interfaces using evaluation techniques and usability testing.
Pre-requisites: MAD1000
