Child and Youth Care – On-Campus Transfer Information
Introduction
Welcome to the On-Campus Transfer Guide for the Child and Youth Care (Year 1) program. While the first year is completed entirely online, either part-time or full-time, the second and third years are completed full-time on-campus. The instructions below will walk you through the process of transferring to the on-campus program which includes preparing for fieldwork.
We advise all students to bookmark this page so you always have access to the most current placement information.
Please note: it is the student’s responsibility to ensure that the transfer requirements, including documentation submission, ParaMed, and academic clearance are met within the stated deadline. The deadlines do not change year to year and are always available to students. No extensions will be granted.
If your documentation is not complete and/or you are not cleared for placement by the program deadline, you will have to wait for the following year before you can transfer to the on-campus program. There are no exceptions. This can delay the completion of your program and may result in you incurring additional fees.
Program Overview
Students studying in the CYC online program will transition to the full-time on-campus program to complete Year 2 and 3. Students are only eligible to enter the on-campus program at level 03 in the Fall semester, regardless of when you begin your online studies.
On-Campus Transfer Schedule
A typical program progression is outlined in the table below. This progression assumes students are studying full-time and successfully complete all courses on the first attempt. If you are studying part-time, either as a course registrant or with a reduced course load, you must complete all Year 1 courses no later than August 31st in the semester prior to your transfer to the on-campus program.
Program Start Level 01 – Online |
Level 02 – Online | Break in Studies | On-Campus Transfer |
---|---|---|---|
Spring 2024 | Fall 2024 | Winter and Spring 2025 | Fall 2025 |
Fall 2024 | Winter 2025 | Spring 2025 | Fall 2025 |
Winter 2025 | Spring 2025 | Not Applicable | Fall 2025 |
Spring 2025 | Fall 2025 | Winter and Spring 2026 | Fall 2026 |
All courses in Level 01 and Level 02 (Year 1) must be successfully completed before entering Level 03 (Year 2) of the program on-campus. If you fail any theory courses throughout Level 01 or 02 of the program, it may impact your eligibility to transfer in your preferred academic year. This is particularly important for full-time students beginning in the Winter semester because there is no break in studies prior to the transfer period.
Placement Preparations
As part of the on-campus transition, students must prepare for and meet all placement requirements to ensure eligibility to continue their studies Year 2. All preparations for placements beyond Year 2 will be coordinated with the on-campus Field Placement Officer.
Camping Trip
Students should be prepared to participate in a camping trip in early Fall for Year 2. Eligible students will be provided more details by the on-campus Program Coordinator in the Winter term prior to your transfer.
