PLAR – Prior Learning Assessment and Recognition
Turn your practical experience into credits – You may have gained valuable knowledge and skills through independent study, working, volunteering or travel. The Prior Learning Assessment and Recognition (PLAR) program can help you identify and translate this learning into college credits, possibly enabling you to receive a diploma or certificate in less time and for less cost.
Credits for Prior Learning Assessment and Recognition (PLAR) are not the same as Transfer Credits (exemptions).
• PLAR credits are for learning gained through experience
• Transfer credits (exemptions) are for equivalent courses taken at recognized educational institutions.
For more information or to apply, contact the PLAR Coordinator at 613-727-4723, ext. 7027.
Transfer of External Academic Credit (Exemptions)

You are encouraged to submit your requests for transfer of academic credit (exemptions) prior to the beginning of classes.
Normally, only those courses completed during the last five (5) years will be considered for transfer of credit. A minimum grade of “C” or equivalent is required for external transfer of credit (exemptions).
