Learn more about this year’s recipient of the Dr. H.H.J. Nesbitt award, Kevin Brink of the Computer Engineering Technology – Computing Sciences program. Kevin was recently profiled in the Cornwall Standard-Freeholder.
The Dr. H.H.J. Nesbitt award is given at Convocation to the student at Algonquin College with the highest academic standing in a degree, diploma or certificate program.
Mental health initiatives in Lanark County, ON, received a boost on June 25, 2015, when Office Administration—Executive (OAE) students from the Algonquin College, Perth Campus presented a cheque for $1,712.75 to Lanark County Mental Health. The donation follows a Mental Health Awareness Luncheon that the OAE class held in April.
Over the years, Jimmie Johnson’s No. 48 Lowe’s Chevrolet has taken on many different looks in various Lowe’s, Kobalt, Patriotic, and special paint schemes. Going into the 2015 season, Team 48 wanted to spice up the design of the 48 machine and enlisted the help of designer and Algonquin College graduate Brendan Droppo! Via the Lowe’s Racing blog.
Two Public Relations students took home top honours at Thursday night’s International Association of Business Communicators (IABC) Ottawa 2015 Excel Awards!
Congratulations to Public Relations student Bryant McNamara, named the chapter’s Volunteer of the Year, and to Sharon Cheung, recipient of the Rick Green Student Award! Way to go Bryant and Sharon!
Algonquin College’s Public Relations and Communications department was also recognized at the event, taking home an Excel Award for a 2014 campaign introducing the College’s newest President Cheryl Jensen.
Six thousand, four hundred forty graduates invited to Convocation, with thousands of guests and a number of live stream viewers from around the world. Grads and guests filled up seven ceremonies at the Canadian Tire Centre.
Five honorary degree and diploma recipients, including Anthony Pollard, Dr. Robert Cushman, Senator Vernon White, Harvey Glatt, and Shirley Westeinde. The program, which includes 17 youth entrepreneurs representing some 15 companies, is being offered for the first time through Algonquin’s Campus-Linked Accelerator.
This three-month summer intensive program (May 5 – July 24) consists of nine weeks of workshops given by industry professionals and faculty on Tuesdays, Wednesday and Fridays plus guidance and advice from mentors over several additional weeks. Twenty students will participate in SUMMIT and will be eligible to receive $5,000 in funding.
