Kevin Brink: Proof that hard work pays off

Learn more about this year’s recipient of the Dr. H.H.J. Nesbitt award, Kevin Brink of the Computer Engineering Technology – Computing Sciences program. Kevin was recently profiled in the Cornwall Standard-Freeholder.

The Dr. H.H.J. Nesbitt award is given at Convocation to the student at Algonquin College with the highest academic standing in a degree, diploma or certificate program.


Perth Students Donate $1,700 to Local Mental Health Organization

Mental health initiatives in Lanark County, ON, received a boost on June 25, 2015, when Office Administration—Executive (OAE) students from the Algonquin College, Perth Campus presented a cheque for $1,712.75 to Lanark County Mental Health. The donation follows a Mental Health Awareness Luncheon that the OAE class held in April.

Public Relations students receive 2015 IABC Ottawa Excel Awards!

Two Public Relations students took home top honours at Thursday night’s International Association of Business Communicators (IABC) Ottawa 2015 Excel Awards!

Congratulations to Public Relations student Bryant McNamara, named the chapter’s Volunteer of the Year, and to Sharon Cheung, recipient of the Rick Green Student Award! Way to go Bryant and Sharon!

Algonquin College’s Public Relations and Communications department was also recognized at the event, taking home an Excel Award for a 2014 campaign introducing the College’s newest President Cheryl Jensen.

 

 


Algonquin College 2015 Spring Ottawa Convocation by the Numbers

convocation 2015 for webSix thousand, four hundred forty graduates invited to Convocation, with thousands of guests and a number of live stream viewers from around the world. Grads and guests filled up seven ceremonies at the Canadian Tire Centre.

Five honorary degree and diploma recipients, including Anthony Pollard, Dr. Robert Cushman, Senator Vernon White, Harvey Glatt, and Shirley Westeinde. Algonquin’s SUMMIT Entrepreneurship program highlighted in Ottawa Business Journal

The program, which includes 17 youth entrepreneurs representing some 15 companies, is being offered for the first time through Algonquin’s Campus-Linked Accelerator.

This three-month summer intensive program (May 5 – July 24) consists of nine weeks of workshops given by industry professionals and faculty on Tuesdays, Wednesday and Fridays plus guidance and advice from mentors over several additional weeks. Twenty students will participate in SUMMIT and will be eligible to receive $5,000 in funding.

The Higher Ed Points program converts Aeroplan Miles into payments for higher education for participating institutions as an innovative source of funding for post-secondary education.

This creative program allows Aeroplan Members to pool their Aeroplan Miles to support a student – any Aeroplan Member can make a ‘payment’ on behalf of a student as long as they have the required student name, date of birth, and Algonquin College student number.
