Innovation on Display: Algonquin Students Tackle Real-World Challenges with Applied Research
OTTAWA (Thursday, Nov. 28, 2024) – Students across Algonquin College will present over 80 applied research projects, in areas such as computer science, engineering, media, hospitality, and healthcare, with 35 projects focused on community health in nursing at the upcoming Applied Research Student Project Showcase.
Students and faculty will reveal the results of months of dedicated work on cutting-edge projects that have been developed in collaboration with industry, community, and institutional partners. This is an opportunity to witness how applied research is making an impact and driving positive change in our community.

About Guest Speaker Julia Slanina
Julia Slanina is an entrepreneur, community builder, digital health innovator, and founder and CEO of Treehouse. Slanina was a medical student prior to becoming a tech entrepreneur with a passion for improving community healthcare for aspiring, expectant, and new families across Canada. She has dedicated her time to innovating in digital health with her product at Treehouse. Treehouse is a software tool focused on simplifying the connection between allied healthcare providers and families as well as aggregating data to improve clinical outcomes. In addition to her work at Treehouse, Slanina sits on numerous boards and advisory councils, including Femtech Canada and KidsUpFront, and has been featured in Forbes and The Logic. In her spare time, Slanina volunteers with the Ottawa Network for Education (ONFE) to help teach children from grade 5 to 12 entrepreneurial skills, work readiness, and financial literacy. Slanina is available for interviews following her presentation.
