Ottawa, ON, December 18, 2023 — Claude Brulé, Algonquin President and CEO, is pleased to share that Algonquin College has won the CICan’s ImpAct-Climate Challenge, with the highest number of submissions in the large institution category.
The project received over 2,100 entries from staff, students, and faculty across the country, from more than 46 colleges and institutes.
OTTAWA (Dec. 4, 2023) – The Office of Applied Research at Algonquin College is hosting the RE/ACTION In-Class Projects Showcase on Tuesday, Dec. 5, 2023, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
This edition of RE/ACTION has a special focus on public health, with over 50 student teams displaying projects on topics ranging from improving health care in Indigenous communities, increasing public awareness on the benefits of influenza immunization, drafting non-stigmatizing terminology in medical and nursing documentation related to substance use health, and creating activities for residents at The Oaks, a managed alcohol program in Ottawa. OTTAWA (Nov. 30, 2023) – Graduates from the fall cohort of the Skills for Success program will receive their certificates in front of friends and family on Friday, Dec. 8 at Algonquin College. The College experienced overwhelming interest in the program funded by the Government of Ontario, receiving over 900 applicants for the fall and winter sessions. Forty-two graduates have successfully completed the fall program, with a new cohort of 50 students starting in Winter 2024. Graduates are now working with the program partner, Altis Recruitment, to find meaningful employment.
Supported through funding provided by the Ontario Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development, Skills for Success is a free 11-week program offering women newcomers to Canada skills training for entry level office administration roles. Participants must reside within the National Capital Region, hold a valid SIN and have emigrated to Canada within the last five years.
Included in the graduation event is an awards presentation, with categories in highest academic achievement in digital, communications, and mathematical skills.

Registration is now open for Algonquin College’s new Bachelor of Applied Science (Building Conservation) degree program, which will be offered exclusively at the College’s Heritage Institute in Perth, Ont.
This program, unique in Canada, is designed to prepare students for a career in heritage conservation and the revitalization of the built environment to sustain our future, fight climate change and be good stewards of our physical heritage. The need for sustainability-focused conservationists is growing by the day as a result of Canada’s aging infrastructure, and this program will serve as a launching pad for talented new conservationists to begin making a difference.
On Friday, Oct. 20, 2023, students from Algonquin College’s Community and Justice Services program will take to Elgin Street for 24 hours as part of Operation Come Home’s 24 Hours of Homelessness event. During this time, students raise funds and awareness for Ottawa’s homeless population.
Roughly a dozen second-year Community and Justice Services students, alongside Professor Cat Baron, will brave the elements over a busy weekend in downtown Ottawa. The event, being held for the first time since 2015, will see funds raised for Operation Come Home in its efforts to provide support to at-risk and homeless youth.
OTTAWA (Sep. 20, 2023) – A first-year student in the Medical Radiation Technology program is the 2023-24 winner of the annual Tuition Contest at Algonquin College. Jenna Mattatall had arrived in Ottawa one day prior to learning about her contest win, after driving 13 hours from her hometown of Truro, N.S.
College employees from the the School of Health Studies, Student Support Services and the Marketing department surprised Mattatall with news of her win in the AC Hub on the Ottawa Campus, waiving pompoms and cheering. The Algonquin College mascot was on hand to welcome Mattatall, along with Erin Stitt-Cavanagh, Dean, School of Health Studies and Paula Benbow, Chair, Allied Health, presenting a cheque in the amount of $5,000. The full amount will be applied to Mattatall’s tuition expenses for the 2023-24 academic year.
