Algonquin College hosts Alumni of Distinction Awards Gala 

OTTAWA (September 26) — Algonquin College celebrates some of its most accomplished alumni at the third annual Alumni of Distinction Awards Gala on Sept. 26. The gala honours the achievements of 10 alumni and one community employer who have made distinctive contributions in their fields of endeavour and their communities.

The event will be hosted by Michael O’Byrne, CTV News at Noon anchor and an alumni of Algonquin’s journalism program.

Algonquin College one of the top Ontario colleges for student satisfaction

Algonquin College has seen consistent improvement in overall student satisfaction levels, according to Provincial Key Performance Indicator (KPI) results released today across the province.

Student, graduate and employer feedback placed Algonquin at the top of the scale among large Ontario colleges – with a top-three ranking in six of nine categories.

The annual survey results, which were released by Colleges Ontario earlier today, show overall student satisfaction rising three per cent to 76.2 per cent, ranking Algonquin College second among large colleges in Ontario – and above the Ontario college system average.

A message from the President – Global Climate Strike

Dear Colleagues and Learners,

As you know, thousands of people around the world are taking part in the Global Climate Strike, a series of events that started on September 20 and that will culminate in a global day of action this Friday, September 27.

Many schools, post-secondary institutions, businesses and concerned citizens everywhere are going to pause to consider our collective responsibility when it comes to the environment. Algonquin College’s “rocket man” fired up by India’s moon mission

Gokul Das Balachandran, a research associate in Algonquin College’s Data Analytics Centre, expects to spend most of Friday in front of a computer screen, watching the live streaming of his native country’s first attempt to land on the moon.

Sometime around 4 p.m. Ottawa time, the landing module of India’s unmanned moon mission, Chandrayaan-2, will touch down on the moon’s southern polar region. If all goes well, the Asian nation will be the fourth country to successfully reach the moon after the United States, Russia, and China.

– Students registered in approved Algonquin College programs will have free subscriptions to the online business platform –

OTTAWA – Algonquin College students registered in approved programs will benefit from free subscriptions to Shopify as part of the company’s Open Learning program.

Starting in September 2019, Shopify will provide free subscriptions to Algonquin College students. Business Management and Entrepreneurship (BME) is one example of a program that will participate in the partnership as Shopify and BME have the shared goal of empowering entrepreneurs. College Emergency Broadcast System Test: Sunday, August 25

Risk Management and ITS are working on enhancing the College Emergency Broadcast System. As part of this work, test messages will be broadcast to speakers and phones in ALL buildings at the Ottawa Campus on Sunday, Aug. 25, 2019 between 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. There is no action required during this test.

The test messages will state the following: THIS IS A TEST OF THE ALGONQUIN COLLEGE EMERGENCY BROADCAST SYSTEM. PLEASE DO NOT RESPOND TO THIS NOTIFICATION. THIS IS A TEST ONLY.

During this period, If you hear fire alarms or different emergency broadcasts, you should follow your regular emergency procedures and any instructions that are provided through the emergency broadcast system.


Information and Communications and Technology Council to bring new Work Integrated Learning opportunities to Algonquin College

OTTAWA – Algonquin College students will benefit from new, experiential learning opportunities that prepare them to succeed in high-growth sectors of the digital economy.

Algonquin College is collaborating with the Information and Communications and Technology Council (ICTC) to support education-industry partnerships that will enhance opportunities for students in the digital economy as part of ICTC’s Workplace Integrated Learning (WIL) Digital Program.

RE/ACTION Applied Research Showcase: Friday, Aug. 9

Algonquin College’s Office of Applied Research, Innovation & Entrepreneurship will be holding its applied research showcase: “RE/ACTION” on Friday, Aug. 9, 2019.

“RE/ACTION” highlights leading-edge applied research done in collaboration with industry, institutional and community partners. Run three times every year, this event provides a glimpse into the future of technology and the current state of innovation. Discover and explore our research teams’ incredible findings and creations ranging from robotics to biology to User Experience Design and anywhere in between. The projects this summer are incredibly diverse, including a Voice-Activated Bionic Arm and Autonomous Robotic Chimney Cleaner.
