OTTAWA — Algonquin College will host 12 of the country’s top chefs this weekend as they do culinary battle in the prestigious Canadian Culinary Championships.
The two-day contest, which begins on Friday and concludes Saturday night, involves three separate competitions: Mystery Wine Pairing, Black Box Competition, and The Grand Finale Competition.
OTTAWA (January 28, 2020) – Algonquin College’s new, innovative home for corporate training in downtown Ottawa reflects the growing demand for lifelong learning.
Located at 700 Sussex Drive, in the heart of the nation’s capital, the 8,800-foot space will serve employers and individuals looking for retraining, skills upkeep and development.

We know that many of you have been following news about the novel coronavirus that originated in China and has been particularly devastating in Wuhan, the epicentre of the outbreak.
At this time, the Public Health Agency of Canada has assessed the public health risk as “low for Canada and Canadian travelers.” Only those people who become ill within 14 days of having visited Wuhan or who have been in close contact with someone who has a respiratory illness who has been to Wuhan within 14 days prior to the onset of their illness are considered at risk for the coronavirus. OTTAWA — Algonquin College is proud to introduce 11 new dogs to its popular therapy dog program, the Dog Squad. This brings the Squad to 18 dogs in total, from Ricky, a majestic Alaskan Husky, to tiny Leo, a loveable Yorkshire Terrier.
The dogs will be introduced at a special ceremony, where they and their owners — all Algonquin College employees — will receive a certificate and officially become full-fledged members of the Dog Squad. All dog/employee teams were assessed by animal behaviour experts and received training from canine expert Jane Madigan, a consultant with the Algonquin College Animal Health Care Advisory Committee who has trained hundreds of dogs around the world. We would like to encourage our learners and colleagues to understand the potential impact to their families due to the ongoing bargaining with teachers for new collective agreements across the province. There may be impacts in both elementary and secondary schools in the coming weeks unless an agreement is reached. We would like to encourage any of you who could be impacted by this situation to consider how it might affect your normal family routines.

Algonquin College, Carleton University, University of Ottawa, and College La Cite on Saturday. Algonquin and Carleton joined forces to compete on two teams, Hackey Sack, who won first place, and Taylor Swift who placed third. The Boys from La Cité came in second place.
In total, 24 students competed for bragging rights, a trophy, entry to the CyberSCI National Finals in April in Ottawa, the opportunity to represent Canada at the European Championship in Vienna, Austria in November, and a chance at one of many jobs provided by sponsors Bank of Canada, Bell, BriteSky, CGI and Rigel Kent. It is with great sadness that we have learned today of the loss of life in the crash of Ukraine International Airlines Flight PS752 travelling from Tehran to Kyiv. This included the deaths of 63 Canadians and, among that number, students from at least four Canadian postsecondary institutions, including our Ottawa partners, the University of Ottawa and Carleton University. The Ontario Secondary School Teachers’ Federation (OSSTF) has announced that it intends to hold a one-day walkout for all members on Wednesday, Jan. 8 unless an agreement is reached. If this occurs, all teachers and education workers represented by OSSTF in eight school boards will be closed to students. The boards affected are:

• Peel District School Board
• District School Board of Niagara
• Algoma District School Board
• Huron-Superior Catholic District School Board
• Greater Essex County District School Board
