Algonquin College to host Citizenship Ceremony

Algonquin College is proud to host 40 citizenship candidates and their families for a special Citizenship Ceremony in partnership with the Institute for Canadian Citizenship and Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada on Dec. 12.

This special ceremony will include roundtable discussions with the citizenship candidates, their families, and local community leaders and Algonquin College staff. The roundtables provide a unique opportunity for new Canadian citizens and community members to build connection, share experiences of being Canadian, and discover commonalities.

Not only will this mark a new beginning for these Canadians, but it will also help us celebrate that Algonquin College has become the first college in Ontario to develop and implement an Equity, Diversity and Inclusion policy. In holding this ceremony, Algonquin College also becomes the first Canadian postsecondary institution to take part in the Institute for Canadian Citizenship’s #CelebrateCitizenship Challenge, a program that is challenging business leaders and employers across Canada to provide employees with paid time off to attend their citizenship ceremonies.
