Algonquin College students double the impact for Dave Smith
Youth Treatment Centre in celebration of Giving Tuesday
OTTAWA (Dec. 6, 2024) — First-year students in Canada’s only Event Management-focused business degree program raised $6,831.35 for the Dave Smith Youth Treatment Centre (DSYTC) during the runup to Giving Tuesday.
Students in the new Bachelor of Event, Sport and Entertainment Management (Honours) degree planned and executed seven impactful events at Algonquin College’s Ottawa Campus on Nov. 28, engaging the campus community while raising funds and awareness for the DSYTC. The funds raised by the students were generously matched by Adobe, bringing the total contribution to $19,602.85.
“The Dave Smith Youth Treatment Centre is honoured to be the ongoing charity partner of Algonquin College’s Event Management programs,” said Cindy Manor, vice president of philanthropy at the DSYTC. “We are consistently impressed with the students’ hard work and their dedication to our Centre and the important work we do to support youth and their families.”
“Our students are deeply committed to supporting causes that benefit young people like themselves,” said Sylvia Densmore, coordinator and professor in the Bachelor of Event, Sport and Entertainment Management program. “The events on Nov. 28 showcased not only their hard work and creativity but also their heartfelt dedication to the cause.”
“Adobe is proud to support these talented students as they make a difference in their community,” said Jennifer Kealey, executive assistant, Adobe. “We believe in fostering creativity and innovation, and these students have demonstrated both in their approach to event planning.”
The College’s Bachelor of Event, Sport and Entertainment Management (Honours) degree, which launched in September of 2023, equips its graduates with leading-edge skills and knowledge, preparing them to excel in a range of careers in the public, private and not-for-profit sectors. The program blends academic learning with hands-on experience in-class and during two co-op work terms, enabling the students to make an impact in their community.
