We Saved You a Seat wins Award of Excellence

Algonquin College’s We Saved You a Seat program has won an Award of Excellence from Electricity Human Resources Canada.

The program was honoured with the Innovation in HR Practices – Education or Training Institution Award.

We Saved You a Seat was selected for its work “addressing the enrollment gap of women in STEM.” Launched in 2018, the program aims to increase the number of women enrolled in select technology programs at Algonquin. Sara Gauen, the College’s Inclusion and Diversity Specialist, was part of the Algonquin team that accepted the award from EHRC.

“It’s with EHRC’s Leadership Accord on Gender Diversity that We Saved You a Seat was born,” Gauen said. “It challenged us to take action, and the program has been so successful that we have expanded to include Powerline Technician with our partner at Hydro Ottawa.”

Algonquin College signed the Leadership Accord on Gender Diversity, a public commitment by Canadian employers, educators, unions and governments to promote the values of diversity and inclusion within their organizations.
